15 Scrap-Pieced Designs for the Modern Quilter by Susanne Woods

Book Description

The second in Lucky Spool’s best-selling series, Scraps, Inc., Volume 2 features 15 well-known designers who are sharing a new quilt pattern using their favorite fabric scraps that they can’t bear to throw away.

Most quilters present their finished quilts as gifts to friends and loved-ones, but often these projects leave extra fabric scraps that quilt-makers can’t bear to just throw away. Scrap-based quilting titles are consistently best-sellers as quilters are always looking for new and innovative patterns to feature these treasured fabrics. Most often, these are the quilts that get kept by their maker as a reminder of all of the other quilts they have gifted over the years. Scrap quilts can be tricky to design due to the variety of color challenges that random scraps can introduce, but these patterns solve those issues through clearly illustrated color schematics. The book includes a range of projects from simple to advanced and beautiful patterns to make color harmony easy.

This book has brought together a number of designers to create 15 wonderful designs. What a brilliant way to use up your scraps. The deigns are modern and have an upto date take on quilting. If you love to quilt you will no doubt have a lot of scraps that you really want to use. This book is perfect! Each of the designs are unique as they are designed by different designers. Each one has it's own style and take on a modern quilt. Each of the designs provide detailed instructions to guide you through the whole process of making each of the quilt.
With the instructions and guides you also have numerous clear diagrams to help you on your way. Due to the fact they are all so different you are sure to find a design that matches your scraps.Due to the fact they are all so different you are sure to find a design that matches your scraps and your style. I love the fact that some are bright and vibrant and some are with more subtle tamed down colours. I love the fact they are just using scraps in your traditional way. They are beefing up the designs to make them so much more modern. To be honest I am in love with the designs. I love just looking through the book and arguing with myself which one I want to make first. This book is brilliant for any quilter that wants to make some brilliant modern quilts with their scraps. LOVE IT!

This is the second collection of modernm scrap quilts compiled by the publisher and quilter Susanne Woods. As scraooy quilts usually remain with their makers Susanne wanted to create a collection of quilts that would fit in well in any home so she persuaded 15 well known designers toi create an original scrappy quilt pattern especially for the book. This book is aimed at the intermediate quilter becuase although the first chapter is a short selection of basic blocks, these patterns are based on scraps so it is presumed that you are already familiar wtih quilt making. Included in each chapter are quilting tips and a selection of very different designs each with clear instructions and helpful illustrations, personally I would buy just for the beautiful photographs alone.

This is a fantastic volume of incredibly handsome quilts using your stash. There are 15 contemporary designs included, but I think they will spark your own creativity too. All quilters have impulse buys and this book is aimed at de-stashing, making the best of what youve got. You can choose from strip-based or block-based quilts that are pieced in different ways, making the most of your techniques and skills. There is a section on blocks and piecing to make sure you know the techniques. Templates are given where necessary. Instructions seem easy to follow and the photos are clear. I love the arcs in Twirligig, the simplicity of Letterpress, the stylized design Fletching, not to mention the fabulous Stars and Diamonds. All the designs are great designs from great designers. This book has a quality feel to the silky cover.
